At Points West Community Bank, your safety is always our top priority. What Is “Jugging”?

“Jugging” happens when thieves watch bank or ATM customers withdraw cash, then follow them to another location to steal their money. These criminals often wait until their target stops at a store, home, or parking lot—then strike when the victim is most vulnerable.

Police departments across Colorado have reported a rise in these incidents, and are urging residents to stay vigilant, especially during the holiday season or after making large cash withdrawals.

How You Can Protect Yourself

Here are a few simple steps to help keep you safe:

  • Stay aware of your surroundings. If you notice anyone lingering near the bank or following you, don’t ignore your instincts.
  • Avoid flashing cash. Keep envelopes and cash out of sight, even when inside your vehicle.
  • Change your routine. Don’t take the same route home every time after visiting a branch.
  • If you think you’re being followed: Drive to a police or fire station, or a crowded public area. Don’t drive straight home.
  • Limit large cash withdrawals. Consider using digital banking, wire transfers, or cashier’s checks when possible.

What We’re Doing to Keep You Safe

We’re taking proactive steps to ensure your security:

  1. Staff Awareness – All branch employees have been notified and trained to watch for suspicious vehicles or activity near our locations.
  2. Increased Monitoring – We’re keeping a closer eye on parking lots, driveways, and nearby streets during business hours.
  3. Partnership with Local Law Enforcement – Our team is in regular communication with local authorities to stay informed and respond quickly if needed.
  4. Customer Communication – We’ll continue sharing safety tips and local updates on our website, social media, and in-branch signage.

Your peace of mind matters to us. If you ever see something suspicious in or around one of our branches, please alert a team member right away. Together, we can keep our communities safe.

Remember: Awareness and quick action are your best protection.
